Austsing Enterprise Pty Ltd

2nd year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications & Secured grant for Upgrade of plastics reprocessing facility.

Austsing (trading as Australian Soft Plastics Recycling) decided to establish their presence in Australia in the wake of plastic exports bans from July 2022. They are committed to reprocessing commercial post-consumer LDPE, a difficult-to-process waste material, and have invested in developing a unique plant to enable the process to be as automated as possible.

The RDTI return contributes to the costs of ongoing R&D. In addition, the new equipment to be installed using the grant will result in the significant increase of Austsing Enterprise’s reprocessing capacity of soft post-consumer plastic, as well as improving the quality of LDPE resin pellets produced.

Geonadir Pty Ltd

5th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

GeoNadir has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to keep investing in development of their platform for environmental condition assessment reporting of sensitive environments. While satellites can provide periodic monitoring of broad areas, they cannot reliably detect lower-level granular changes.

GeoNadir has developed a platform that enables upload and classification of drone mapping data, that can then be used for detailed analysis. Their AI supported tools then allows environmental professionals to monitor for ecological changes of concern so that remedial action can be taken. HQ in Cairns, GeoNadir’s Co-founder, Dr Karen Joyce is particularly focused on safeguarding the health of the Great Barrier Reef and its surrounds.

Greenhouse ByJoost Pty Ltd

R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications over 4 years.

Greenhouse ByJoost was an ambitious project by environmental inventor Joost Bakker. He constructed a temporary dwelling in Melbourne’s Federation Square to demonstrate that an urban dwelling can be self-sustaining (power, water, food) with no waste, while being built using non-toxic materials and substances. Joost was able to utilise the RDTI returns to keep operating the Greenhouse, even for a longer period than initially planned due to popular demand. The Greenhouse was a remarkable culmination of Joost’s previous projects, sustaining 2 inhabitants with all the food they could eat, producing no waste in an off-grid dwelling for a period of 1-2 years. There was keen global interest in the project, with several film crews coming through to produce documentaries about the Greenhouse. Joost is now applying his methods in commercial and residential settings. Joost and Greenhouse have proven that we can live urban lifestyles in a way that is compatible and even healthy for our environment.

Hydra Light International Pty Ltd

9th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Hydra Light International (HLI) has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to keep investing in development of water-based batteries. Initially trying to provide a lighting solution for areas that are not serviced by reliable power (e.g. central Africa), HLI explored the ability of water to act as the medium for generating power in a battery. They have developed the Hydracell which produces power for lighting, small appliances and charging devices. Best of all, it can be replenished by refilling it with water! Who needs harsh chemicals – Hydracell could change the way we power all our devices.

Loop Industries Pty Ltd

4th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Loop Industries — trading as Olympic Polymers (OP) — continues to leverage the RDTI program to advance the development of its washplant solutions for post-consumer agricultural soft plastics. Most investment in plastics reprocessing has focused on hard plastics, which are comparatively simple to process using established technologies and benefit from mature end-markets; soft plastics, however, present a far greater technical challenge.

Soft plastics fold easily, trapping water, soil, and other contaminants. Achieving thorough cleaning and drying is extremely difficult, making it hard to consistently produce high-quality resin pellets. Despite being “soft,” these materials place significant mechanical stress on processing equipment, leading to accelerated wear, breakdowns, and higher maintenance requirements. When coupled with the additional contamination typical of agricultural waste streams, the processing environment becomes especially demanding for reprocessors.

Through sustained R&D efforts, OP has developed innovative methods, specialised equipment, and proprietary know-how that enable effective cleaning and processing of these problematic materials. As a result, OP can produce high-quality recycled resin suitable for use in manufacturing the original products—delivering true circularity. These advancements have positioned OP as a key technical partner in stewardship programs for irrigation piping, dairy farm plastics, and other agricultural soft-plastic waste streams.

Polymer Processors Pty Ltd

Secured grant for $9.7m for Expansion of plastics reprocessing facility.

Polymer Processors (PP) is one of the largest plastic recycling facilities in Australia and is 100% Australian owned and operated. Since 1987, the Wilson family has built this business on a foundation of quality, innovation, and a hands-on commitment to Australian manufacturing. PP transforms post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste into high-quality pellets for re-manufacturing. This grant enabled a significant increase of PP’s capacity, contributing even more to the circular economy within the plastics industry.

Martech Industries Pty Ltd

7th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Martech Industries (Martech) has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to keep investing in development of performance solutions for all sorts of vehicles and engines, based on the Unichip device that enables direct control of vehicle/engine components. New solutions are constantly being developed to enhance performance and control of new vehicles and to maximise the performance of long-standing reliable models. Martech is now world leader in Unichip solutions and they boast having the fastest Kia Stinger on the planet.

Total Marine Developments Pty Ltd

9th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Total Marine Developments (TMD) has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to keep investing in development of performance solutions for marine outboard engines. Unlike vehicle engines or marine inboard engines which operate horizontally, outboard engines work in a vertical plane. There are few supercharging options and even some of the necessary diagnostic equipment (e.g. dyno) is not available. Under the Nizpro brand, TMD has now developed superchargers for a range of marine engines, enabling leisure boat users to get more out of smaller engines and commercial/industry boat users to use fewer engines in tandem. TMD has become a world leader in marine performance solutions and they boast having the most powerful 6-cylinder outboard marine engine on the planet.

Visiontek Pty Ltd

4th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Visiontek has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to sustain their operations through the intense development period of their prototype pilot training system, called Black6. This truly revolutionary system is disrupting the industry with its ability to train pilots in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost of current methods.

Quorum Water Pty Ltd

6th year preparing R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI) applications.

Quorum Water (QW) has been able to utilise the RDTI returns to sustain their operations through the intense development period of their prototype solution to control odour and corrosion in waste treatment facilities. The conventional treatment relies on harsh chemicals in different combinations and concentrations, trying to treat the odour which is generated by odour-causing bacteria. The QW solution targets Quorum Signalling, which is the communication mechanism used by bacteria to come together and create colonies/films. The QW solution disrupts this signalling, making it more difficult for the colonies to form in the first place, minimising the production of odour. This novel approach is proving successful at controlling odour, while also significantly reducing corrosion throughout the treatment plant. These outcomes improve the environment around the plant, all but eliminate the use of harsh chemicals and save operators significant sums in operation and maintenance costs.
